Baby Food Breakdown (not Breakdance)
So, I was wondering how much $$ I am actually saving by making my own baby food. Here it is. Gerber baby food costs 82 cents for 5 ounces. I bought a butternut squash for $3.31, and it made roughly 24 ounces of baby food (I made it a little thick, so it will probably make more once it's watered down). So, Gerber costs 16.4 cents per ounce; and my squash baby food costs 14 cents per ounce. My peas baby food came out to about 6 cents per ounce. I just had to put that into a monthly budget, and I figured out that (if Nathan eats about 5 ounces per day) Gerber would cost $24.60 on a 30-day month. My squash would cost $21.00, and my peas would cost about $9.00. I think yams would cost around $7.50 a month. I am experimenting with different kinds of squash to figure out which ones he likes best (or worst). :-)
