Tuesday

I actually made my first trip to the grocery store with two kiddos this morning! I am very thankful for my sling; I don't think I would have ventured out without it. :-) I know I could always put her car seat in the cart, but she doesn't really prefer her car seat. And that would make for a stressful shopping trip. Also, I love not having to lug that thing around with me...or put it into my shopping cart. I have height issues which cause problems with seeing over the top of it. ha
Nathan did really well for a 3-year-old little boy. Every now and then he would run down the aisle, but overall he was very "helpful" in his own way. He gets so excited when he gets to help. :-) I would much rather have an excited, slightly overzealous child than a sulky, quiet one. And, yes, he can be sulky and quiet at times.
A nice couple who came up behind me in the check-out line unloaded most of my groceries and talked to Nathan while I was checking out. Some people are just nice. :-)
When we got home, I started unloading groceries, and Noelle was very unhappy that the car had stopped moving and no one had bothered to remove her from her seat. After I got the cold things put away, I went out back with Nathan to let him blow bubbles while I fed Noelle. I recently found the left-over little bubble bottles from our wedding (!) and have been letting Nathan use them up.
Nathan accidentally threw one of the bottles into the dogs' yard, and the Monty-dog quickly started chewing on it. I was not very happy since Monty would no doubt love to eat the stupid thing and have horrid consequences later, AND he's also the dog who will not come or give. I finally tricked him into dropping the bottle, which allowed for Gimli to pick it up. Then I was able to call Gimli and dig it from his mouth. I was a bit put out by the experience, and I went inside to wash the one hand I had been operating with (the other hand was holding Noelle the whole time). Nathan ran inside and said, "Momma! Come get it!"
Oh yes, somehow the other bottle had gotten into the dogs' yard.
"What?!" By this time I was not using my calm and steady voice.
"Get the bottle; the dogs have it!"
"HOW IN THE WORLD DID THEY GET IT???!!!!"
"They just did!"
I think I may have growled.
At least this time I knew what worked, and Gimli even obeyed the command "Drop it" after he came to me. I didn't even have to touch him or the nasty bottle. We went inside after that.
The rest of our morning/early afternoon has been fairly uneventful. We have read books, eaten lunch, and told stories. There is something Nathan said this morning that was really funny, but I cannot remember what it was. How sad. He did lay his head on my shoulder while I was reading him books, though, which was very encouraging. :-)

It's funny how somebody else's stressful situations can be hilarious for other people who weren't actually there. Things are always different than they are in the parenting books, aren't they? Like how it says "When you're ready to nurse, wash your hands and get a glass of water to drink." In reality, it should say "Try not to have dog drool or poop of any kind on the hand that touches your baby."

LoL.
