This morning went well. I made breakfast, got my seafood gumbo stock started, and went to library time with everyone. I also let Nathan play in the dogs' yard and knitted a few rows on the hat I'm making.
After lunch I started to get ready to wash dishes when I noticed that the side of my sink with the disposal was not draining. I turned the disposal on, but it did nothing but make the water swirl. I thought it was odd that it didn't sound like anything was actually in the disposal. I turned it off, checked down in the disposal, turned it back on, and let it run for a minute. Mistake. Water gushed out from under the sink, getting on me, the floor, and everything under the sink. I got towels and threw them all over the floor, banished Nathan to a chair (he thinks water on the floor is "dance time"), then just stood there and stared at the mess for a few minutes. I think that's how I cope. I have to take a mental "time-out" and remind myself that, although it's not what I had planned, the mess can be cleaned and the problem can be fixed. :-) Then I laughed. Really, it's the only logical thing to do because it's the only thing that can actually make the situation better (and laughing seems to bring down my blood pressure). Granmother had peeled carrots for me this morning and put the peels down the disposal; my disposal is old and doesn't like peelings. So we have a nice plug in the pipe under our sink that awaits Evan's arrival home; that is, unless I decide to get adventurous and do it myself. ha
I think I'll add a couple of pictures of my kids...
