Noelle turned two. All week she had been talking about her birthday (Nathan helped with that). On the morning of her birthday, Evan and I gave her my old dollhouse, which Evan and Nathan had repainted, and a rocking chair. I think she was more excited with the fact that both Daddy and Mommy were in her room giving her undivided attention. :-)
That evening I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, and we all went out on the deck. After they finished eating, Nathan and Noelle played in the dogs' yard. Nathan said, "This was the best birthday party ever!" No balloons, no gifts, no big craziness. Just cookies, cake, (Daddy), dirt, and sticks. ha I wonder if Nathan would go for that for his birthday?
We went to Mom and Dad's for Labor Day weekend. Noelle had also been saying, "Nonni's, Poppie's house...Fiday!" She loves going there, for some strange reason. ;-) Mom and Dad got her some dolls and furniture for her dollhouse, and Mom made the kids some fuzzy pillows. The pillows definitely were the favored gift. They are still walking around our house with their pillows. :-)
Nathan swam in the pool, and he and Poppi tried their best to bring the thing down. ha
We came back home Monday morning and had a really nice day at home together. The weather had changed on Sunday, and we've only had highs in the lower 80s!!! That, my dear friends, is heavenly. Well, except for the fact that my allergies always go CRAZY with the first cooler weather. Not so heavenly.
Let's see. On Tuesday we went to the park with our homeschool group. Tuesday evening I was basking in the wonderfulness of my children playing nicely in the kitchen while I was cooking supper. They were playing with some pecans and Noelle's kitchen set. All was well, until Noelle walked up to me and showed me a handful of wheat berries. Ugh. She had gotten cupfuls out and poured them all over the floor.
On Wednesday Noelle was having a horrid, horrid diaper rash, so I finally decided to let her run around without a diaper for a bit. We were in the kitchen, no big deal. Until I realized that I had lost sight of her for a minute. She came walking into the kitchen all bow-legged and said that she had pooped. Where? In Bubba's closet. Oh, of course. Your potty is sitting right in the doorway between the living room and the kitchen, but OF COURSE Bubba's closet makes a nice place, too! She actually pooped on his brand new shoes. I didn't tell him. And the shoes are as good as new.
Today. Today we had our nature study group at Ray Harrel. Beautiful place. It has a nature center with a bathroom, too. Except that it was closed today. I found that out as I was trying to get Nathan to hold it and run to the nature center...only to find out that the doors were locked. I'm really tired of cleaning up poop. Well, I'm tired of cleaning up poop that is NOT where it is supposed to be. HA!
The weather was beautiful today, though. My kiddos new favorite thing to do out front is to build a "mouse house." They gather grass and leaves from in front of the house and bring it to the other side of the driveway by the dogs' gate and stack it. The other day I think they ran back and forth for at least twenty minutes. At one point Nathan was sitting by the "mouse house" and told Noelle to go get more grass. She took off running, then stopped and said, "I cood." (I'm scared.) Nathan said, "You're scared? Okay, I'm coming!" A few minutes later she did the same thing, but he was preoccupied. So he said, "It's okay Noelle! Just sing a song or something!" ha That's what I say to him when he's scared and there's not much for me to do. Sing a song or pray. ;-)
This afternoon Noelle pulled a brick onto her bare foot and started crying. Nathan removed the brick (scratched his hand) then later told me that he had saved Noelle's life. Her foot could have broken and she would've died. He was so attentive for about ten minutes after that.
Oh, and his friend is sick right now. He heard me talking to his friend's mother, and when I got off the phone he asked to pray for her. So he prayed. He prayed that nothing inside her would be broken. :-)
That's all for now! Evan took his second test the last Monday of August and is feeling pretty good about it. He took last week off from studying, so now I'm having withdrawls. ;-)
