Fast Day

This day went by incredibly fast. I do not know where it went. It ended with me trying to make "flower" pens for every kid in my class. I had the wonderful idea for Mother's Day, but I didn't get to them until 3:10 in the afternoon. They were trying to make them themselves, but it just wasn't going fast enough, and I had duty this afternoon. The kids were actually pretty patient with the whole madness, though, so I was proud.

One boy was pestering me all morning to call his mom's boyfriend to make sure he was awake. I heard them mention an amusement park, so I wouldn't let him call (the phone is only for emergencies). Around 11:50 (between lunch and specials), he asked again, and I asked him what he needed to call for. He said that he had to go see someone. Being skeptical, I asked who. My mom. Where? That's my business. (My brain finally started connecting the dots; his mom just got out of jail last June. Maybe she's back?) I said he could use the phone, and he reminded whoever it was that "it" started at noon. Visiting hours? I have no clue. Anyway, I told him he could stay in the room and make a flower pen since he wouldn't be there later in the day. He was very happy to do that, and my heart just went out to him. He came and showed me the card that he had already made for her. They came and got him about an hour later. He had been one who had had perfect attendance for awhile, and I had wondered why they had begun getting him early from school every once in a while.

Well, I have to get off of here. Maybe I'll write more later.
