Nathan sucked his thumb last night. He took off the thumb cover in order to suck his thumb. I was talking to him at breakfast this morning and happened to mention something about having a celebration for him when he really stops sucking his thumb. Shazam. Got his attention. Now he's been talking about the celebration, planning the celebration, and even telling me to go to the store tonight after he goes to bed to get a certain kind of balloon for the celebration.
I took Noelle to the doctor this morning to get her MMR shot. She was supposed to have it at her 15-month check-up but was coming down with whatever Nathan had, and I didn't want to put that in her system while she was down. Then the holidays happened. So she got it today. :-) She cried a little (the nurse said that this shot was "sub-something" and would hurt) but was fine as soon as Nathan started playing with her.
Speaking of Nathan, he asked me at lunch why I was older than Daddy. I said that I wasn't older than Daddy. He said that I looked older than Daddy. I said, rather taken aback, that it didn't matter, I was NOT older than Daddy. What standards of measurement is he using for that judgment, I'd like to know.
After the shot, we stopped by the library and checked out some books. We hadn't checked out books in a while since juggling both kids and an armload of books isn't fun, but I decided that we needed to today. We also went to the baby storytime. Noelle was a bit more interested in the snack that another girl had.
After library time, we came home, put Noelle down for a short nap, read to Nathan, ate lunch, then went to a friend's house for play time.
After that it was time for Noelle to take another nap, and I read more to Nathan from Little House on the Prairie. Big chapter. Pa thinks he hears a woman scream, and it's really a panther. Yikes. Oh, oh, oh. We also read the chapter about their Christmas. I was wondering how Nathan was taking the whole story about Santa Claus, but he was worried about other things. "All they got was a stocking?" said he. Affirmative. "They didn't get any wrapped presents??!!" Nope. They got a tin cup, a piece of candy, a little cake, and a penny each. That really made an impression on him. I could tell the little wheels in his head were turning.
This afternoon he played with his trains while Noelle was napping. Not exactly the activity of my choice since the trains seem to crash a little too often and he MUST make all the noises, but he was being really good. Then he went in the living room and looked at his library books while I was making crepes, mixing up biscuit dough, and starting pizza dough. He came in on the end of that and helped making pizza dough. :-) Of course, his dough went on the floor a couple of times and in the sink once. Blech. HIS pizza, for sure.
We actually had our home group tonight. First time in three months, probably. And Nathan was actually good.
Okay, I'm three minutes over. Goodnight!

When he says you "look" older than Daddy, he MEANS you "act" older. ;-)
You know, that is a wonderful point. I now see clearly what he meant! :-) Thank you, Alicia, thank you so much. I can't wait to inform Evan...
