Going for the Gold (or, Two Posts in Two Days)

Today has been a wonderful day.  I just love these kinds of days.  :-)  Noelle is still having teething difficulties, but she did really well most of the morning.  Once teething and sleepiness are combined, however, all bets are off.  She is asleep now.
I have gotten quite a bit done today, although I still need to make crackers out of the dough that is sitting on my counter.  ha  School went as smoothly as it can with a 6-year-old, and he even got two thank-you cards written!  I have started Nathan with Year 1 of Ambleside Online's schedule, and I think we will enjoy it.  I am putting a list of all the "readings" that need to be done during the week on the refrigerator and highlighting them as they are done.  For some reason I like doing that much more than scheduling things out daily.  On the days we have more time, we do more; I don't feel like I've "missed" something just because it was on Wednesday and didn't get done on Wednesday.  ha  Mind games.
We started reading Trial and Triumph this morning, and Nathan wanted to know why Polycarp didn't ask God to save him (Polycarp was burned at the stake).  Hmmmm.  Well, he wasn't an American.  ha ha  Okay, sorry.  I just told him that Polycarp probably believed that it was an honor to be able to give his life for Jesus.  He knew what was waiting for him on the other side of the fire and had a peace about dying.  Interesting stuff.  I am really looking forward to this education that I am giving my kiddos.  :-)
Speaking of education, I am reading Ten Books that Screwed up the World (and 5 others that didn't help) by Wiker.  I am trying to decide if it is worth my time and effort to actually READ the books that he says screwed up the world, which is the author's recommendation.  Neitzche, Darwin, Machiavelli, Freud, Rousseau, etc.   I already had a book each by Darwin and Machiavelli on my Kindle (now gone), but I hadn't read them.  Evan said that he wasn't really interested in reading those books since he knows he disagrees with them.  ha  I do find it interesting to trace back so many of the crazy thoughts of our day to a specific person who proliferated an idea through a book.
Let's see, Noelle is now awake.  She hasn't improved much on her mood.  :-(  Ah well, I must go try to make sure she doesn't pummel Nathan now.
